Recently had a very nice
ski vacation at
Crested Butte, CO.
w00t !!!The condo was great (you could literally ski to and from your patio door!). The ski conditions were great (We got 12 - 18" of new snow while we were there). The food was great (elk medallions, lamb chops, and venison fillet). We had a lovely time and it was a perfect ski vacation
(right up to the return home) ...
Meaning, we got home to Raleigh, NC about
30 hours after we left Crested Butte! We just happened to have a connection at
DFW in the midst of a
12.4" snow storm. The people who arrived at Crested Butte on the plane we were to leave on Thursday said they sat on the runway for
5.5 hrs. ...
That plane got us to DFW around midnight, Thursday. It was snowing heavily. The
runways were solid white, except for aircraft tire tracks and the taxi ways had 4-6" of slush on them. We found a TGIF that was still open and
lubricated ourselves for the next leg. Then we 'slept' on the concrete floor of the terminal until a ticket counter opened up around 5
am.
We got an 11
am flight to National (DC) with
priority standby to RDU. At the
very last second, we are allowed on that flight. Then we sit on the runway, packed like sardines in a completely-full American Eagle commuter jet for over an hour (for a 45-minute flight) due to
possible mechanical problem. After all that, I just knew we were going to have to get off that plane and stay in DC ... when they decided to
go for it (!) We get to RDU around 6:30pm Friday, but our bags are on a later flight, so we sit around RDU for another hour ...
then Raleigh gets another snow storm. LOL/FML.
